Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) said there has been an overwhelming demand for their buses from devotees wishing to visit their hometowns in Konkan this Ganeshotsav.
Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik said with the festival starting on August 27, total of 5,103 MSRTC buses, including 4,479 with group bookings, have already been fully booked.
He further said, “For Mumbai residents, Ganpati is a festival close to the heart. This year, from August 23 to September 7, MSRTC will operate over 5,200 extra buses to meet the demand. Both personal and group bookings will offer concessions: senior citizens traveling in groups will get 100% fare waiver, while individual senior citizens and women will get 50% off.”
These extra buses will depart from major bus stations across Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar starting August 23. To facilitate smooth travel, MSRTC staff will be on duty round the clock at bus stations and stops, while mobile repair teams will be stationed along key routes in the Konkan region. Temporary restrooms will also be set up for passengers along the way.
Minister Sarnaik added, “MSRTC has a unique bond with Mumbai’s Konkan residents. It ensures they reach their villages safely, even to small hamlets, every year during Ganpati. We wish all devotees a comfortable and joyful journey this season.”
