Mumbai, August 16, 2025: As revived rainfall activity continues to batter many parts of Maharashtra especially Mumbai and surrounding areas, IMD has sounded a red alert for many parts of the state for the next few days.

In addition to red alerts, there are orange and yellow alerts for almost all the districts across Maharashtra signalling rainfall of varying intensity in the next few days.

Red Alert – Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places
Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri have been placed on red alert for the next few days starting today. In addition to these districts, Ghats of Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara have also been placed on red alert for similar rainfall conditions.

Districts of Konkan such as Palghar and Sindhudurg, Ghats of Nashik and some districts of Vidharba such as Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Yavatmal have been placed on orange alert for the same duration of forecast.

IMD Predicts Very Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rain

It is noteworthy that Mumbai and surrounding areas have been receiving heavy rain since last night. Santacruz recorded a massive 245mm rain in the last 24 hrs, which is the highest single day rain in Mumbai in August after 2020.

Even the busy Mumbai-Pune Expressway witnessed heavy showers during the last 24 hours leading to some disruptions in the transportation on this critical connection between Maharashtra’s two largest cities.

People living in the alert areas are advised to take necessary precautions and not to venture near ghats or water bodies due to their unpredictable nature during heavy rains.
