Pune: Dams Release Water into City Rivers – District Collector Urges Citizens to Stay Vigilant

Controlled water release from Pune dams as river levels rise after heavy rain
Pune, August 19, 2025: As the city is witnessing heavy rainfall for the past few days, most of the reservoirs in the city have reached their capacity and now water is being released into downstream rivers passing through Pune. The district administration has released information about the water release and has urged residents to stay alert and stay away from riverbanks and low lying areas.
Almost all major dams in Pune district including Varasgaon, Panshet, Khadakwasla, Pavana and Mulshi are releasing water into their respective rivers.
Consequently, Mula, Mutha, Indrayani and Pavana rivers are flowing full and may flood low lying areas near their banks.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi, who also heads the Disaster Management Authority, said that people in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas be shifted to safer places. He urged all government agencies to work in coordination during this active monsoon spell.
