Khadakwasla dam release raised as IMD issues red alert for Pune ghats

Pune, August 20, 2025: Heavy rain continues in Pune district and IMD has issued continued red alert for ghat areas of Pune today also. Even though the forecast says moderate rain in the city areas, however it has been raining heavily throughout the night and in the morning.

As a result of continuous rains for the past few days, most of the reservoirs around the city have filled to capacity and are releasing water into the rivers.

The discharge from Khadakwasla dam will be raised to 39,000 cusecs from 9 am today, August 20, due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area. Irrigation officials have informed that low-lying areas including Narayan Peth, Kasba Peth, and parts of Shivajinagar may be affected.

The warning level for the dam stands at 60,000 cusecs and the danger level at 1,00,000 cusecs. Officials are keeping a close watch on the situation. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appealed to citizens to stay alert and follow instructions issued by authorities.

Traffic on Baba Bhide Bridge has been closed due to the rising water level of the Mutha river.
