Pune University flyover ready to open, expected to ease congestion at University Chowk

Finally, there may be relief in sight for commuters passing through Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk as the first phase of the integrated double-decker flyover between Aundh Road and Shivajinagar E-Square will be opened for commuters tomorrow, i.e. Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

The 1.3 km stretch has a three-lane road with a width of 9.5 metres and is designed to carry heavy traffic more smoothly. Light poles have been installed at 15-metre intervals, and the structure has a 28-metre span, making it a landmark urban infrastructure projects executed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

On Monday, PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase and Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole, inspected the site. Senior officials, including Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla and Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, were also present during the review.

MLA Siddharth Shirole said that this flyover, which connects Raj Bhavan to the RBI on Ganeshkhind Road, will greatly ease congestion at University Chowk. “This is the first phase of the project, and it will provide much-needed relief for daily commuters and citizens,” he said.

The inauguration will be held on Wednesday, August 20, at 5:30 pm. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the project in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, Union MoS and MP Murlidhar Mohol, and Minister Chandrakant Patil.

Once operational, the flyover is expected to decongest one of Pune’s busiest stretches, cutting down travel time and reducing bottlenecks for vehicles heading towards Shivajinagar.
